Description

This is my 1962 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. I bought it locally with the idea of fixing it up for off road use. The previous owner had installed the current small block Chevy engine and appears to have done a nice job. It was not running when I bought it but the p.o. assured me that it had run and that the 4 wheel drive was in working condition.
Earlier this week I finally got around to working on this FJ40 project and started by changing the oil, filter, rebuilding the carb, new plugs, rotor, condenser, and battery. I started it today and it runs very well. The engine is smooth with no weird noises or smoke. Here is the bad part :( I noticed the manual transmission is leaking a lot of fluid. Look at the picture of the passenger floor and you will see a nice puddle of 90w! Why the trans is leaking from the top I have no idea. I suspect both the trans and transfer case need to be pulled and rebuilt. A little more work than I have time for currently.
The only serious rust on the FJ40 is under the tailgate (the usual spot), rest of the truck is just surface rust. Floors are great with not even a pinhole of rust. P.O. cut the rear fenders to put flares on but obviously never finished the job. Current tires are 35x15.5 Super Swampers. I am also including the original rims and tires if you want them. The top is pretty rough, p.o. had put a vent in the roof, but it is fiberglass and can be repaired. I am missing the drivers running board and you can tell the rocker got smashed pretty good at some point. The metal on this FJ40 is thicker than any vehicle I have owned. Reminds me of my days in the Army!
This is a project vehicle so don't expect everything to be perfect. If you look closely at the photos you can probably answer your own questions. This FJ40 will need to be towed. It will move under it's own power, but with the trans leak I would suggest winching it onto the carrier. My number is 520 403-6412 if you need a question answered. Thanks for looking.
