1994 Land Cruiser 80 Series FZJ80
Description
Why I'm Selling ItFor sale is a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80. Over the last four years I have worked to slowly rebuild this truck into a reliable backcountry traveler. I'm selling because the more I travel the more I realize I want to do it long term and not just on the weekends! So I'm planning to move up in size to a Sprinter van.
Current State and ConditionIt's been an ongoing project for the last four years, as funds slowly trickle in. My goal was to travel backcountry, so reliability was my number one priority in terms of what to address first on truck. A lot of the major engine components have been addressed, as well as basic suspension and some tidbits to make the truck more comfortable (such as 3M Cyrstalline tint).
The paint is worn from the sun and heat, clear coat is peeling in a few spots but mainly on the hood. It also has "pinstripes" from branches on the trails. The interior is mostly stripped. Carpet is all removed from the back, and headliner is stripped out along with the plastic trim waist level and up. My plan was to spray the entire interior with LizardSkin ceramic coating, but have not gotten to it. Seats are original leather, baked stiff and hard over time. Drivers bottom seat leather is ripped on the bottom and lumbar area.
Current IssuesAs this is a project in progress, there are issues I haven't gotten around to address yet as I was tackling the engine and reliability items first. The major issues are:1. Steering: The left tie rod is "stuck" and the tire shop wasn't able to do a proper alignment. The truck will pull to one side, and you have to pull the other way to compensate and drive straight.2. Catalytic converter is most likely shot, as it rattles quite a bit during warmup (stops happening once it's warmed up)3. Starting issue: Two years ago I began having rare, intermittent occassions where the starter would click but not crank. It didn't happen often enough for me to worry about it, and it always started up after a few more tries. After a year I replaced the starter with a remanufactured one from Land Cruiser Parts. Over the past year I've still experienced the rare sporadic issue, but it happens so rare, and I've never been stranded, that I haven't worried about it, even though it's my ownly vehicle and my daily driver. I also live in the desert and constantly travel to very remote places. It's always started up after the next or few tries. I've read on the forums it might be related to the ignition switch.4. Gear is broken on the drivers' power seat, so it can't adjust forward/backward.5. I needed to quickly wire in a backup camera for a trip, but I didn't want to drill into the roof, so I ran the wire out the rear quarter panel window and used strips of duck tape to hold it inside the roof gutters, to the rear camera.
