Restored 1985 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser 5 speed 6.0L
Description
About 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser ( LandCruiser ) FJ60 5 speed Up for sale is my 4 wheel FJ60 V8 5 Speed baby. I’ve owned this 60 for the last 8+ years. I purchased it from California and the truck never went East of Arizona. When I got the originally got the truck it was basically in bone stock 100% rust free condition. It was the perfect ‘shell’ to build what you see now. Everything that has been done has been done with a high level of quality, corners were not cut. After tearing down the truck for restore I realized it was not necessary to do a full frame off restoration on this truck. The frame and body were so absolutely clean on the underside that all I ended up focusing on was virtually every nut, bolt and moving part on the rig. In short, everything on this truck has been reconditioned or replaced. This 60 is 100% leak free from front to back. Once the main restoration was finished I enjoyed the truck with its original 4.2L, but made a decision about 3 years ago to swap the 4.2 for a 6.0 fuel injected (LQ4) Vortec motor. There are no negatives about how this FJ60 drives, handles or performs. I have put so much time dialing in the handling that this 60 drives so well that passengers that don’t know cars are convinced the truck is not a 1985 with leaf suspension. The 6.0 is stock and the truck has never been driven hard. When I want to drive fast I take my car, when I want to just cruise and float along I take the 60. ;-) Embarrassingly I built this truck to go anywhere, but to be honest it’s really never left the pavement since I restored it. Pictures and in person inspection will certainly back this up. This truck is CLEAN beyond clean. OCD has its benefits. ;-) Has always been stored indoors, not driven in east coast winters. This is a turn the key reliable FJ60 that needs absolutely nothing other than love, regular oil changes and typical maintenance. I have a 3” organized 3 ring binder that details virtually every single thing that I’ve done over the years. It is a very well cared for, documented, example of a super clean/honest/rust free FJ60. Highlighted below is a list of items done that make this 60 so awesome. My reason for selling is simple, I other priorities at this stage of my life and just don’t drive it as often as I’d like. I really hope that it finds someone who will love it and enjoy it as much as I have. Engine/Powertrain: 4.2 removed about 3 years ago Installed a 2005 6.0 (LQ4) Vortec with approximately 70k miles on it. This is a fuel injected swap and not a lower cost slap on a carb swap Engine has O2's and proper catalytic converters. Not sure if it would pass CA emissions but probably wouldn't take much given its has a modern power plant Stock GTO short exhaust manifolds with 02 in manifolds (fit beautifully, so no leaky loud as junk headers are on this truck) Upgraded gearbox to the H55 Toyota 5 speed- Best upgrade ever Completely rebuilt transfer case- 4 Wheel Drive high and low and hubs engage and work as they should Brand new GM style AC compressor- AC blows COLD Drive by wire throttle ECU easily accessible and vehicle is wired using a proven conversion wiring harness. No weird splices or junk hanging all over the place Gears are running 4:10 gears out of a FJ62; works well with 33’s and could probably go with 35’s without more lift Both driveshaft’s are fully rebuilt, balanced and are in perfect condition Birfields (front knuckles) do not leak and are rebuilt within the last 7K miles Front differential is open Rear differential has an ARB Air Locker Exhaust is all custom bend tubing with a very quiet muffler and cats. If you want louder all you'd need to do is swap the muffler out Suspension, Steering & Brakes Front and rear tuned Bilstein shocks New Old Man Emu (OME) springs All bushings replaced Front and rear sway bars (due to being a 100% pavement princess) Anti-dive, grease zirk shackles (HFS reinforced) All new everything up front, tie rod ends, relay rod ends, Aussie steering stabilizer. Drives straight and tight. Front disc & drum rear- All in excellent operating condition with excellent pedal feel. This truck stops straight and with zero drama. I have a newer 4runner and the FJ60 stops equal, if not better than the 4runner. E-Brake operates as it should Upgraded FJ80 steering box. This box handles the 33’s (plus I thought I’d go 35’s someday) better than the original 60 box and improved the trucks road manners Interior Completely redone during restore using heavy duty ‘leather like’ materials. I could have gone leather, but I figured it would be more fitting to keep materials easy to clean and durable. Pictures speak to the quality of the interior. When vehicle was down to metal I laid down sound deadening everywhere. This truck rolls down the highway in total comfort, without annoying rattles or road noise. All door seals are quality custom double gasket from WagonGear. (Original were single seal). Brand new black high quality carpet Brand new black headliner with correct reused steel bows for OEM taught fit. Also lots of sound deadener in roof prior to headliner install LED interior lighting as well as in dash All gauges work 100% including fuel gauge Dash is not cluttered with non OEM switchgear and wiring is clean behind dash In the pics you will notice a custom double DIN head unit. This is a Parrot head Unit that I put in 4 years ago. Personally I’d swap it to a CarPlay unit since they are now available. The stereo works perfectly and is connected to a high quality AMP along with a single 18” kicker in cargo area. If you want to shake the windows this setup will do that or if you want not draw attention but have good quality sound this set up delivers that In the original stereo single din is a digital tilt, compass, elevation gauge. This unit looks right at home and matches the basic gauge colors. The temp gauge does not work as it needs the (available) sending unit. HVAC controls work perfectly fine and control AC & heat as they should. One mod was the ‘mixer’ cable. This had to be moved to accommodate the double din set up. So when the seasons change the mixer (cable operated) needs to be flipped to better manage changing seasons. To keep the dash original looking I left the choke pull knob in place (left of steering wheel). It lights up and operates properly, but obviously the need for a choke is long gone. Seatbelts are all new so the original crusty worn outs from 1985 are gone Exterior Vehicle was taken down to just about bare metal to see what I was working with. Vehicle has never been hit and there is ZERO body filler hiding any previous rust Top coat is finished with 2002 Mini Cooper British Racing Green with clear coat. There are no issues with the paint or clear coat. Underside is 100% rust free and is in excellent condition, protected by high quality chassis black paint Underside is 100% leak free from stem to stern. You could literally work on this truck in a clean shirt and it would still be clean when your done :-) Headlights are H4 halogen glass lens Marker lenses were either refurbished or replaced Horn, lights, signals and hazards operate as they should Original Australian BJ60 mirrors, gone are the wimpy North American mirrors Roof rack is a custom powder coated Gamiviti expedition rack. Another sign this truck was built with the best LED Light bar was provided by Gamviti and is integrated into the front low profile basket ARB front bumper with 8274 Warn winch with 150’ or rope (not steel cable) and PIAA yellow fogs Kaymar (Aussie) rear bumper with integrated can and tire rack 30+ gallon expedition fuel tank- Definitely a good bit of time between fill ups Wheels are standard aluminum slots with 33” Khumo mud terrain tires (60% tread remaining) Miles: 234k miles on body, 75k on 6.0 I’ll add to this description if I notice anything I’ve missed. But the above definitely covers the major items. I maintain the right to end this auction early if I sell locally If you have questions please don't hesitate to ask Happy Bidding.
