Description

I'm listing my best friend's 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500 on behalf of his estate. For over 50 years, he and I shared a love of British sports cars. He bought this car in Arizona, where its previous owner maintained an extensive file of records and receipts, beginning in the early 1990's. At that time a sidedraft Weber carburetor, tubular exhaust headers, electronic ignition, and other mild performance upgrades were added. (See photo of summary page from file.) Mileage at that time was in the mid-teens; I believe the current odometer reading of 46988 miles is probably original. One page in the file references some unspecified accident damage in the early 90's, of which I see no signs at all. The original oversize black rubber bumpers have been removed and are stored in the loft above the car, as shown in the photos.
I looked the car over carefully and took the attached photos, which show the car exactly as found. I noted - no rust anywhere- no signs of accident damage (just minor dings and chips, as shown in photos; see rear section of driver's door in particular)- new (apparently never used) convertible top- clean, well-maintained engine compartment- wood dash recently, and nicely, refinished
I drove the car around the yard and found the engine to run smoothly, with a nice exhaust note, and the clutch and brakes to work well. I didn't have the opportunity to give it a full road test (as paved road is a mile away), but I believe my friend kept this - like all his cars - in good, roadworthy condition. The car is sold as-is, but I'm optimistic that the new owner can simply put it through standard state inspection, add gas and go! The car is available for pickup in Sedona, Arizona.
