1977 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE - STANDARD w/MOONROOF - FUEL INJECTED - 57K ORIG. MILES
Description
I am selling my 1977 Volkswagen Standard Beetle, with a factory moonroof, 1600cc dual-port fuel-injected engine, 4-speed manual trans and just over 57,000 original miles on it.
A little bit of history about the car: I am the 2nd and 4th owner of this Beetle. The original owners werefriends of the family, and traveled to Germany in 1977 to purchase this Beetle at the factory andhave it shipped back. I bought it from them in 1992 as my first car. At that time it still had lessthan 40,000 miles on it (37K I believe). The floors and heater channels needed to be replaced, so Isaved up some money and had it repaired by Restoration by Oakhill in Davison, MI. While it wasthere, the car was sanded down and repainted in the original dark blue metallic color. I drove thisbug throughout my high school years and my first year of college. During that time, I had a great time taking it to car cruises and VW shows, and even won a few trophies. It only saw half of one winterduring the time I owned it. After I realized that the heat isn't that great in these cars, it gotparked in the garage every year thereafter, while I drove one of my parents cars to school. When it was timeto buy an all-season car, I sold the car in 1995 to a man who was giving it to his daughter as herfirst car. I regretted the sale immediately, and when it popped up in the local Tradin' Times magazine ayear later, I bought it back. I was transferring to a college across state, soI stored it in myfriend's parents' backyard under a tarp for a few years until I graduated from college and boughta house. It has been parked in my garage ever since, which is about 15 years now. Upon deciding to sellthe car, I replaced the spark plugs, did an oil change, replaced the fuel pump, filter and fuellines. The engine turned over easily with a wrench on the crank pulley, and it cranks with theignition key when I jump it. I haven't gotten it to fire up and I don't have time to diagnose it at the moment, so the next owner willget to figure that out. I know it won't take much. The title is also still in the 3rd owners name, since I never registered it to get back on the road. So essentially, you'll be the 4th owner! :)
Now about the condition of the car itself, from top to bottom. The body is 99.99999% rust free. There is a little bubble on a fender that I noticed. It has a couple dents on the fenders and ascratch on the LF fender, all of which can be seen in the pics when enlarged. The moonroof needs anew cable, so it is stuck in the almost closed position. The brake pedal is on the floor, so thebrakes will obviously need work. The luggage compartment release cable needs adjustment, so openingit is tricky. The driver rearview mirror is rusty, but I have the good original one as areplacement. The running boards are aftermarket polished aluminum. The left taillight lens iscracked. The driver side floorboard and the front frame head bottom plate could use some patchwork(or replacement), due to rust. The suspension is sticky and could use a good cleaning and greasing. The tires have great tread, but require replacement due to age and cracking. Basically, all systems should be gone through, as you would expect for a car that's been parked for almost 20 years.
Extras that come with the car include all four original steel wheels, with what I believe to beoriginal tires (plus the full size spare, so actually 5 wheels). I have a set of 4 Western Wheelcenter caps for the 15" Western Wheel alloys that are currently on the car. Tinted wind deflector forthe moonroof. New VentShades that have never been installed. New carpet set for luggagecompartment. I've got auxiliary heater blower fans to boost the passenger cabin heating (one ofwhich is installed in the rear firewall, but not connected). There is a Pioneer stereo and speakersinstalled in the car as well. I may have more items, and will update the listing as I find them.
Please look closely at all the pictures and ask all questions before placing your bid. This vehicle is being sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. The Beetle and I are located north of Detroit in the city of Eastpointe, MI. If you want to stop by to check it out, please contact me. If you are too far away and want more pics, please contact me with what pics you want. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!!!
