Description

1969 VW Bus/Transporter/Camper. Much better than average condition considering it is 50 years old this year!

Happy Birthday!

I really hate to sell my lovely bus, but I just don't have the time to take care of it the way I used to, so I'm hoping to find a new caring home and owner. This bus is ready to roll and use daily right now, but would also be a good easy project for someone who has the skills to take it on to the next level...

This bus was repainted in a beautiful 1978 Porche Green about 25 years ago. At that time all windows were removed, new rubber seals were added everywhere, new electrical wiring was put in throughout, wood paneling was installed throughout, and the all original 1968 Westafalia furniture was added. All furniture including the front seats were re-upholstered, and all are still in excellent condition. Even the front wheel cover was hand made, and is still in excellent condition. Of course, being 50 years old, there are inevitably issues needing to be addressed. I have owned this bus for over two decades, so I know it fairly well.

Title is clean and legal, tabs are up to date.

New engine actually has well less than 30,000 miles, however, the odometer is not accurate because it has turned over several times after having more than one engine in the vehicle's history (these odometers only go to 100k). It just had a tune-up and oil change and it runs great! Engine does not leak oil at all. Transmission also has no issues, and the clutch works great. I have religiously changed the oil every 1000 miles for the whole time I have had it. That being said, this bus is no longer my daily driver, and I have only been driving it around my neighborhood, so if you are going to immediately pick it up and drive a long distance in it, you should be prepared for potential hiccoughs along the way and have a AAA membership. The battery is brand new, but drains if I leave it undriven for a long time, so I keep the ground wire unplugged when it is just sitting. Fuel gauge needs to be replaced or repaired.

The 5 wheels have lots of tread but are about 15 years old (rear passenger tire has a slow leak, and needs to have air added every few weeks). Rims are in great shape. Brakes are in good working condition.

Body is very straight. The only minor denting is behind the front spare tire, and behind the left bumper. These are not really very noticeable unless you are looking for them. There are a few small areas of rust appearing on the bottoms of some of the panels, mostly on the passenger side. There is a small rusty patch under the driver's feet that is covered up with a piece of sheet metal. These will all need to be addressed so that they do not get any worse. I just washed the bus good last weekend, and it looks great, but is not a show piece. Of course, with the right new owner, it easily could be. I do actually get tons of smiles and complements whenever I drive it around.

Paint is generally beautiful, and is still protecting the bus well, but it is aging. Ideally, the exterior should be repainted again to extend its longevity. Interior paint is fine. There is an area on the sliding door where some of the paint was distressed after removing a magnet sign that had been left on too long.

Wood paneling is in great condition except for on the doors, which do have some weather stress. These should be replaced as time allows, but are still basically functional and look acceptable...

Fridge and sink work great, but the counter top is aging a little. There is a lot of great places for storage, including space under both seats, a big closet in the middle, and a smaller one in the back.

Heater works well after driving and warming-up the engine.Stereo system works great.

Bed is very comfortable and works flawlessly. Blackout curtains were custom made and keep everything very dark if you are sleeping. They have faded on the outside from sun exposure.

Note: The last person who bid and won this item chose not to honor his bid and this has caused me weeks of wasted time and grief. Please be respectful and do not bid unless you understand the terms and intend to pay the deposit at the end of the auction, and the full price within a week. I'm willing to work with you as long as there is good clear communication. Please ask all questions before bidding.

I am willing to work with a shipper of your choice if you need this to be shipped, but obviously, you will need to pay all of the cost and taxes involved in that. I know NOTHING about shipping a vehicle in a container if you are buying this from another country, so you will need to do most of the work in arranging it. The vehicle would need to be fully paid for before I even get involved in that process!

Note: I do own an original full size all steel roof rack which I plan to sell separately. These are getting very rare and go for well over a $1000. If you buy my bus, I will give you first dibs at buying the roof rack in a separate transaction.

Please see my feedback! I am a longtime eBay buyer and seller and I am honest!

Again, please ask questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.

I have tried my very honest best to describe this vehicle accurately, however, I cannot describe every detail or take pictures of every single part of it.Keep in mind that this vehicle is over 50 years old, and it will continue to have problems that need to be addressed. I can only describe how this vehicle is today, not how it will be tomorrow! That being said, these vehicles are amazingly reliable and are inexpensive to repair when they do have issues... Maintenance is WAY less expensive than with any modern vehicle!!! Parts are super available and easy to find, and the engine is really easy to care for...

Thanks! :-)
