1981 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel
Description
1981 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel L with the 1.6 liter engine and four speed manual transmission. It runs, drives, steers, stops, and shifts great. Starts right up on the first crank. Cruises at 70 on the highway. Steering and suspension feels nice and tight. Has mostly original Royal Red (LE3B) paint, had bodywork on the rear corners what looks like a long, long, time ago. Has original red interior, seats are ripped, dash is cracked, the door panels are slightly warped, and the headliner is gone. Has great patina, and as you can see, rust too, the rust you can not see is in the spare tire well, and the in the front of the pinch welds on the bottom on both sides. I bought this car with the intention of having some fun, and just loving it as is, while fixing it up as I go. Life has gotten in the way and I've decided to sell it. The previous owner replaced the head bolts, and head and valve cover gaskets. The car has about 30 miles on it since the work was done (the drive home from the sellers house). It is a mostly original, mostly unmodified Rabbit. It has a trailer hitch, and heavy duty rear springs to accommodate pulling a small teardrop camping trailer which it did, all over the U.S. in a past life. It is a air conditioning equipped car, however it is not blowing cold, I'd say it's just barely cool. As you can see it's got charm, but is not perfect. The outside door handles need attention, drivers handle works, but is difficult, passenger side handle is not working. The windows are very hard to roll down. I'd guess the regulators need to be cleaned and greased. All of the lights and turn signals work, with the exception of the dash and reverse lights (not sure about the license plate lights). The hood is held down securely with hood pins, and the passenger side hood hinge is broken. I've had many air-cooled VW's, and a couple MKII's, but this is my first MKI, and I do not know all the ins and outs of these cars. These issues are what I've observed while I've owned it and I consider them to be annoyances that are easily remedied with a bit of work and patience.
also included is a couple small boxes of spare parts.
