1956 Volkswagen Oval Window VW SoCal bug 1776 Volkswagen hot rod rat pro street
Description
So my wife and I have made the near painful decision to list our oval window bug. This is a 1956 it's not mint by any means, it's just a fun reliable driver with a fresh speedy 1776 CID engine that pushes this little car along better than it probably needs to.
This bug spent a majority of its life in Arizona until the 1980s when it's owner moved to Rockford Michigan, taking it along. It was then it went through getting the 1776 engine with dual Empi carbs, Mofoco heads, etc. It was a completely new engine at the time and it came from Appletree a performance engine supplier in Mears, Michigan. It also had some minor interior work, carpet and inner door panels. The exterior was repainted and a set of wide 5 Empi wheels were installed. It was an ongoing project spanning 30 plus years, until its owner died of cancer and that is when I purchased it. I've owned it for several years and spent a lot of time driving it last summer, I don't believe any of this bug has ever seen winter driving. The chassis is very clean and all the areas that plague older beetles such as the pan, trays, heater channels, firewall or frame head, spare tires area etc are very nice, my pics pretty much tell the story that it's always been an AZ car.
The car has also been converted to 12 volt which is nice you can actually see at night w 12v headlights. The car is a blast to drive and has proven to be very reliable. It needs a few things like a new speedo cable, the horn is missing, crack in the windshield, will need a passenger side inside door handle, the wiring works good but is not very tidy, and the paint quality is not the best. All very minor things. If you are looking for a reliable peppy driver that gets a lot of attention with good insurance value this might be the bug for you. We are pressed for storage for this coming year that's why I'm offering it up for sale. I'll be happy to send interested parties additional pictures, videos, info upon request serious parties are welcome to contact me at 616-218-645four I hold a clear title in hand.
Here is a short vid of it running, it was only backed out of storage to make this video it has never been driven in the snow. Plus the video has the old Meg on it with no baffle it now has a new left side Meg with a removable baffle and you won't blast your shins on it.
