Description
Hello,
Up for sale is our family collectors car. This is one of very few 1953 Volvo's to make it over to the United States. Volvo's started to appear in the US in early 1956, however, this car remained in Sweden until the 1980's when it was given to my grandfather as a gift from one of his clients. The car is all original, and has original paint(there are a few small nicks and two scratches on the trunk, where you can see the red primer from the factory, so this is the original color), and it has the original interior with seat covers. The drivers side seat cover is slightly torn, and there are some cracks in the steering wheel as is typical for most cars of this age, but aside from that the interior is great shape. It had a cd player head unit which is resting unmounted in the glove compartment, and two speakers were placed on the wooden panel behind the rear seats. These are still operational but can be easily removed if you want to turn it into a show car.
Since this is a very old car, it has some of the usual signs of a car of its age. There is a leak in the windshield rubber moulding along the edge which had let some water collect and cause some corrosion in the pan near the clutch pedal. It created a small hole about a the diameter of a silver dollar, but it could be easily repaired and does not affect the cars driveability. There is no structural corrosion on this vehicle, the rocker panels are quite solid, strut towers, and rear end are all intact. The engine runs great and starts right up. This engine has the original zenith carburetor, and even includes the clawfoot exhaust tip. The steel wheels are a little corroded from moisture, but the chrome caps are in good shape. Most of the exterior metal is in great shape except for a small dent on the front bumperette. This an easy to replace part, and wont require a total bumper replacement just for that one dent. Also there was some bondo used in a small area on the roof, maybe a few inches around, and the paint is checking there ever so slightly.
Additionally, the exhaust is not the original, and is kind of gerry-rigged. It is leaking somewhat, either from the coupling or the gasket, and I would recommend replacing it if you intend to drive the car for any extended period of time. Its a 200 dollar part you can purchase online from vp auto and probably could install it yourself if you have any mechanical background.
Almost everything works pretty well on the car, turn signals, headlights, tail lights, but of course, this is an extremely old, all original car, and thus it drives as such. This is for a true collector who wants a complete car, that he could put a little bit of work into and enter it into shows. It is ready for a concours make over.
All original documentation is included from sweden, including original manual, documentation of servicing and oil changes in sweden, and clean title is in hand. I have video of the car running which I will try to upload to youtube and post a link here in the auction. Please let me know if you have any further questions, however chances are, if you know alot about Volvos, you will know how rare this car is, and that this car is in exceptional shape, and ready for collecting. Thank you for checking out this fine automobile!

On Apr-28-16 at 15:15:31 PDT, seller added the following information:Additionally, there are two indentations on the roofline, which I believe occurred while the car was shipped. There is no damage to the paint in this area, and they can be easily rolled out by a body shop.
