Description

1976 Ford Gran TorinoStarsky & Hutch CloneNO RESERVE AUCTION
This vehicle is being re-listed as the first buyer was unable to afford the car beyond the initial deposit. But their loss could be your chance to own the second most recognizable car in american television history (the Duke's of Hazard General Lee got #1).
Up for sale is a 1976 Ford Gran Torino remade into a Starsky and Hutch clone. This is not one of the 1,000 Starsky & Hutch limited edition cars made by Ford. It is an affordable vintage vehicle which is a definite eye-catcher you will not be afraid to drive for fear it may get scratched. It is not a "show quality" car, but what is termed a "daily driver". In other words, you can drive it, show it, and just enjoy it.
ADDED 10/03/17: This probably isn't going to help sell the car, but I remembered a couple things I forgot to include. Fortunately, no one has put a bid in yet so no harm done. First, the steering wheel is not original to the car and the horn button on this after-market steering wheel had never worked. I tried to think of ways to fix it, but was not too successful. Yada, yada, yada, I used an orange hockey puck and cobbled together a working horn, but was never really happy with it. Second, the left-hand turn signal cancel does not work. The right hand side does. This is controlled by a plastic piece with plastic pins in the steering column. I replaced it once with a used part from my parts car. It worked properly for about 2 months and then quit working again. I'm sure one or more of the pins broke off.
Here is what you can expect to see with this car:
ENGINE: Re-Manufactured Ford 351 modified engine (long block). The Ford 351 modified was the stock engine in 1976 and Ford basically developed this engine by combining the concepts from their prior Windsor and Cleveland engines. This engine was NOT over-hauled, but purchased through NAPA from a Texas based company which professionally remachines engines. The engine has under 2,000 miles on it. Also new: oil pump, fuel pump, power steering pump, water pump, carburetor (2-barrel), battery, ignition coil, voltage regulator, starter solenoid, distributor, chrome oil pan, chrome valve covers, radiator, all hoses and belts, alternator, spark plugs and wires, thermostat, and many other small parts.
TRANSMISSION: Professionally rebuilt Ford FMX 3-speed automatic (on the column) transmission.
REAR-END: Original 9 inch differential, fresh gear oil, resealed cover, and new axle seals.
STEERING & SUSPENSION: All steering linkages replaced except for one tie rod end which was still in good condition. New front shock absorbers and new rear air shocks. New bushings.
UNDER-CARRIAGE: Entire bottom of car, including fuel tank, cleaned and repainted. New fuel sending unit in fuel tank.
BRAKES: Front disc brakes with rear drum brakes. All brake pads and shoes replaced. Many of the brake lines also replaced where needed.
INTERIOR: Front and rear bench seats professionally re-upholstered. Door cards replaced, dyed and trimmed with chrome tape. Dash pad repaired and in good soft condition. New carpeting installed. New floor mats. Rear deck new. Rear side sail panels new. New headliner (although I could not get it as tight as I had hoped). No air conditioning. Car originally had AC, but compressor was seized up and I took it out. Car could still be retro-fitted with AC. The passenger side floorboards had rusted through and were repaired with sheet metal and fiberglass mesh and resin (I do not have a welder nor do I know how to weld). No Radio. I always meant to install a radio and an 8-track player, but never got it done. Factory clock installed in dash, but it does not work.
TRUNK: All trunk metal surfaces cleaned and repainted. New carpeting installed. Spare tire along with original jack included.
EXTERIOR: Refurbished taillight bezels with black trim repainted. Replaced front headlight bezels. Replaced grill and retrimmed as needed. Body has small dings and imperfections, but nothing major. Paint job is not perfect, but is not bad either. The car was originally blue. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the body as a 7.
I purchased this vehicle in October 2007 from a couple in Oklahoma. It was in marginal condition and I spent 3 years going part by part restoring it to its present condition. During this time, I also purchased a 1976 Ford Gran Torino 4-door for parts. Included with the purchase of this car are all the extra parts I did not need should you want them. This vehicle has a clear Illinois title. I am selling the car because once I finished it, I found I just did not drive it around very much and am tired of storing it
This vehicle is being sold as is/where is. The buyer is responsible for all shipping if needed. While I have no reason to believe this car could not be driven anywhere, I would recommend using a trailer for transport as it is 40 years old. The farthest I have ever driven it on occasion is approximately 100 miles round trip. Once auction ends, buyer will have 14 days (2 weeks) to pick up car.
While the car starts, runs, and drives fine, it is being sold with NO WARRANTY, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. Winning bidder will be required to make a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 through PayPal within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Balance of purchase price will need to be paid prior to or at the time the car is picked up. Sale will be final (no returns).
Payment by personal check will be accepted; however, all personal checks will need to clear before car is released to buyer. If balance of purchase price is being paid at the time the car is being picked up, payment will be made in the form of cash (which will be accepted any day of the week) or verifiable cashier's check or money order during normal business hours of my local bank. Title will be transferred upon acceptance by bank of cashier's check or money order.
I have tried to provide as much information as possible about the car, but I am sure I have forgotten something. Please feel free to contact me through this listing should you have any questions and I will try to answer them as quickly as I can.
