Description

NO RESERVE WORLDWIDE AUCTION1976 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT"M" Code - Factory 390 V8 - 4 BarrelBlack on Black - Styleside - Long Wheel Base - 2WD
Purchased newfrom Jerry Duncan Ford in Harriman, TN. on October 23rd, 1975 by Mr. Turner Abner of Lake City, TN. The original Tennessee Title (No. 20840369) was issuedin Mr. Abner's name by the Nashville DMV on November 12th, 1975. Here is where the "story" begins. The original title shows a typo in the VIN and lists the truck as an "H' code instead of the "M" code that it is. You can see the correct VIN in a few of the photos in this listing, including the Warranty Identification Card (Protect-O-Plate), the original invoice and the stamp on the right side frame rail of the truck.
Mr. Abner had regular maintenance done and kept a note pad (shown in the photo with all the paperwork) with services performed, dates and mileage. I have many receipts but I believe some have gone missing through the years. I do have the original owners manual, the consumer information sheet which also shows the correct VIN, the warranty card and warranty facts booklet. Mr. Abner passed in 2007 and the truck waskept in thefamily for the next 6 years. The second Title (No. 92414653) was issued with the typo going unnoticed again.
Fast forward to August 21st, 2013, Mr. Abner's kin sold the truck to theMr. Clarence Fortner of Winfield, TN. At this time, the third Title (No. 88353637) was issued in Mr. Fortner's name and once again, the typo in the VIN was missed and was again issued as an "H" code.
Sadly, Mr. Fortner only enjoyed his newly acquired prize truck for a short period of time as he suddenly became ill not too long after his proud purchase. Mr. Fortner passed on November 3rd, 2016. He had signed and dated the Title the day before on the advice of hiswife Ronda. I had the honor to meet Ronda and purchased the truck from her. I also had the pleasure of meeting her daughter. Together they shared a few stories about Mr. Fortner and how he enjoyed and took care of his truck. We spent about 2 hours talking in her garage as l went over the truck from top to bottom. I was so impressed with the condition of thetruck, all ofthe documentation and original paperwork that I ended up buying it.
It wasn't until after I got the truck home that I realized there was a typo in the VIN. Initially, I was concerned, but after some quick research online I discovered that the typo is not an issueof concern. There is a simple form in all States that a DMVinspector completes while verifying the VIN on the truck.

This truck is in very nice condition. The only excuse on the truck is that it has some rust above the rear wheel wells. The good news is, that is the ONLY rust it has. There is no other rust I could find. The floor boards in the cab, the cab corners, the bed floor, the tailgate, the fenders, the hood, the frame, the undercarriage, etc. are all rust free!
The interior is in great shape. No cracks in the dash. The bench seat was recovered in 1991 (have the receipt from the trim shop) and has no rips or damage. All lights are workingwith the exception of the back up lights which I have not looked into. Even the horn and the cigarette lighter works. All gauges are working including the fuel gauge on either tank. Both doors and the tailgate open and close nicely and the windows function properly. There is a small crack (about 3 inches) in the windshield to the left but not in the drivers line of vision. The bed has a nice plastic liner.
The original radio is long gone and a vintageAlpine AM/FM Cassette unit was installed years ago. Also the original wheels and hubcaps have been replaced with 15x8 Ford Chrome Wagon Wheels. I just had brand new tires installed and they don't have but 20 miles on them. The air conditioning system fan works but is not cold.
The engine cranks right up and runs smooth, even in cold weather and idles nicely. Has lots of power. The transmission shifts smoothly. Dual exhaust sounds nice. Really, there are no issues with driving this truck. It is an old truck and a joy to drive. Has normal signs of use. Always adult owned and never abused.
