When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise. Most have the original paint and original California licence plates issued to them when they were new.

Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible time capsule with 95,227 actual miles. That averages out to be about 1700 miles per year . This is one of those cars that sets the standard on what a proper 1965 Ford Galaxie should be. The car was sold new in 1965 in the now defunct Lafayette Ford dealership in the affluent east bay suburb of Lafayette, CA. The car has lived a pampered life and is not much different now than when it rolled off the showroom floor 54 years ago. The car was acquiredfrom the original owner in the early 80's because its white, and a 65 Galaxie was not present in the ever growing Galaxie collection. In 1965 Ford was changing the product line to usher the company into a new era and appeal to new youngerbuyers. 1965 was also high water mark in Fords quality control as well as the debut of the stronger yet quieterframe design. The 65 Galaxie used a lot of theirtechnologyand design from the older 56-57 Lincoln Mark II's. For a 54 year old convertible this car is in remarkablecondition. It was debuted in Special Interest Autos magazine in Februaryof 1990 with an 8 page write up using this car as the example for a 65 Ford Galaxie story. "Our test car was tight and remarkably rattle free, which says a lot about a 95,000 mile convertible approaching the quarter century mark". This is what waswritten about this car 29 years ago, now she is well over 50 years old has 5,000 more miles and still tight and remarkably rattle free. You would be hard pressed to find another 1965 Ford Galaxie in this condition let alone one that is a convertible and one that has not been restored.

Cosmetically quite frankly the photos speak for themselves, this car is a diamond. White with a red interior is the ideal color combination that adds class and elegance to this 54 year old convertible. The body is very straight with no dents or scratches and definitelyno rust. This car has spent its life indoors in a mild climate which has done wonders to the preservation of this car. All the chrome is original and shines fantasticwith no pitting or imperfections. The wheels look great the glass is original and has no imperfections. The original top beautifullywhite and is fully functional and has no rips or tears, the rear window is clear. All the lights work with originallenses. Nothing is missing or been replaced this is car that is in excellent conditioncosmetically.

Step inside into this sexy red convertible and you will see the interior is in excellent condition. The red is vibrant from the door panels to the dash to the seats, red is everywhere and unmistakablyoriginal. The dash has no cracks on any kind. The gaugeslook great; I want to point out the numbers and letters are extremelyclear and the needles are still vibrantly orange with zero sun damage this is unheard of with any 54 year old car let alone a 54 year old convertible. The seats are originaland has no rips or tears and are still very plush. The back seat doesn'tappear to have had anybodyeven sit in it. Typically with old convertible boots, they shrink and get hard making them impossible to put on. This boot has not shrunk and is easy to install, the red matches the rest of the interior. Everything works as it should.
Mechanically this car is in good condition. The car has had 5,227 miles put on it since 1990 and has spent most of the time parked inside a warehouse. It runs and drives great the stock 352cid v8 has been cooped up too long and is just begging to go out and cruise. This car really is a joy to drive, it very smooth yet has the power to get you where you want to go. There is no weirdengine noises the exhaust is quiet, the brakes don't have squeaks. The cruise O matic transmission shifts smooth in all gears as well as reverse. The cars runs and drives like it did in 1965 because it hasnt been used much its beenproperlystored and maintained in the last 54 years.
