Description

1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE XKE SERIES ONE 3.8 LITER FIXED HEAD COUPE. TWO SEATER. WHITE WITH TAN LEATHER TRIM. 4-SPEED. CHROME WIRE WHEELS. FACTORY WEBASTO SUNROOF. NON-MATCHING, EARLIER, 3.8 E-TYPE ENGINE. OLDER RESTORATION. EXCELLENT DRIVING CAR.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very nice 3.8 liter E-type Sunroof Coupe. This car was sold new here in Pacific Palisades, California in March of 1964 to a Mr. Roy Hargrave. The car appears to have had the original color scheme of Opalescent Golden Sand with tan trim. In the mid 70's, it still lived in the L.A. area but was relocated to Washington state where it was just purchased from it's believed 4th owner. It was comprehensively restored approximately 20 years ago and has been used sparingly since then.
The body on this car is excellent, straight and entirely rustfree. During it's last restoration, the car was completely cosmetically and mechanically restored with several sensible improvements/upgrades. This included new paintwork in it's current white color both on the bodywork and engine subframes, most all of the chromework was replated, new windshield, new rubber kit, complete new interior kit in tan including headliner, sunroof, and dash top pad. The more comfortable 4.2 Liter seats were installed over the original 3.8 style.
Mechanically, the car is excellent with the engine, gearbox and front suspension having been rebuilt. Iskenderian fast road camshafts were fitted during the rebuild. The original gearbox was changed out for a 4.2 full syncromesh unit. The braking system was also rebuilt using the improved 4.2 components, including the master cylinder set-up, remote servo, and 3-pot Series Two front calipers. The car is fitted with Koni shocks. It was also treated to a new set of chrome wire wheels and Pirelli tires.Today, the car has nicely mellowed into a highly attractive and clean driver. There are a few very minor dings and the occasional touch-up. The car drives and performs very well with no smoke or noises, good oil pressure, and always starts easily on the button.
It is a driver's E-type with the best of both worlds, combining the free-revving 3.8 Liter engine, coupled with the 4.2 liter full-syncro gearbox, improved brakes, and comfortable 4.2 seats. This rare 3.8 Liter E-type sunroof coupe has a known California and Washington history, and offers very good value for the buyer who wants to enjoy and use his E-type. This car was thoughtfully restored and improved while keeping the E-type's original parts, character, and appeal. This car includes the original lifting jack and bag, knockoff hammer, manufacturer's warranty brochure with letter from Hornburg Jaguar, and reciepts from the 70's and 80's.
