1968 GTO CONVERTIBLE WITH PHS DOCS.

I FOUND THIS GTO IN A PLANE HANGER/EQUIPMENT SHEDNEXT TO THE OLDER GENTLEMANS AIRPLANE. HE SAID IT RAN AND DROVE GREAT THE LAST TIME HE DROVE IT. HE TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND HE THOUGHT IT WAS OUT OF A 66 OR 67 GTO. I CHECKED FOR VIN # MATCHING CAR AND DIDN'T FIND ONE. THIS GTO CAME WITH THE 400 ENGINE. IT IS HOWEVER A PHS DOCUMENTED GTO CONVERTIBLE.

I GOT IT HOME, FILED THE POINTS AND FILLED THE FLOAT BOWL UP WITH FRESH GAS AND SHE STARTED AND RAN SMOOTH. NO KNOCKS, NOISES, OR SMOKE. I THEN CHECKED TRANS FLUID AND IT WAS NICE AND RED BUT WAS LOW. AFTER A COUPLE OF QUARTS OF FLUID SHE WENT SMOOTHLY INTO GEAR. I DROVE IT INTO THE YARD FOR PICTURES. THE GTO WILL NEED BRAKES, FUEL SYSTEM, BELTS, HOSES ETC. ALLGONE THROUGH BEFORE IT IS ROAD WORTHY. RIGHT NOW IT HAS NO BRAKES, WILL NEED A MASTER CYLINDER AT THE VERY LEAST.

BODY HAS HADFLOORS AND TRUNK PANS REPLACED SOME YEARS AGO AND HAVE A LITTLE SURFACE RUST ONLY. HAS A GOOD RUBBER NOSE AND RARE HIDE AWAY HEAD LIGHTS. BODY WILL NEED RESTORED, LOOK AT PICTURES. FRAME IS SOLID, INNER AND OUTER ROCKERSLOOK GOOD, FRONT FENDERS CAN BE USED, HAS SOME RUST ON LEADING EDGE OF HOOD AND SOME RUST ON DECK LID. IHAVE BEENA PAINT AND BODYMAN FOR 30 YEARS. FOR A 47 YEAR OLD CONVERTIBLE IT IS VERY SOLID. RUST IN USUAL PLACES. I THINK NEW PARTS ARE MORE COST EFFECTIVE THAN THE LABOR TO REPAIR THEM. I WOULD REPLACE BOTH QUARTERPANELS, DOOR SHELLS, INNER AND OUTER WHEEL HOUSES FOR SURE. YOU COULD REPAIR OR REPLACE HOOD AND TRUNK. IT ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND YOUR SKILL LEVEL. YOU COULD GET IT MECHANICLY SOUND AND DRIVE IT AS IS WHILE YOU RESTORE IT, OR IF YOU HAVE ALOT OF MONEY AND DON'T WANT TO TOUCH IT, JUST TAKE IT TO A GOOD RESTORATION SHOP AND WRITE THE CHECK, ITS UP TO YOU. MYSELF, I WOULD DRIVE AND ENJOY ITFOR AWHILE AND MAYBE MAKE A WINTER PROJECT OUT OF IT. EITHER WAY YOU HAVE INVESTED IN A MUSCLE CAR ICONTHAT WILL ALWAYS BE WORTH GOOD MONEY.

HAS BUCKET SEATS WITH CONSOLE AND HIS/HERS SHIFTER. TOP IS DRIVER QUALITY WITH NO TEARS AND WORKS GOOD, BUT NEEDS A NEW SWITCH. GLASS IS ALL GOOD EXCEPT WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED. WIPERS WORK, TOP WORKS, TACHAND BLOWER/HEATER WORKS.
