Description

1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

This is a true gem... This 1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 hardtop has undergone a very recent frame-off, nuts and bolts restoration. It was a low mileage rust-free car to begin with, but the restoration has brought it up to the highest standards of originality and appearance. It is a 4-wheel Drive vehicle with its original 3.8 liter inline six cylinder engine, original three-speed manual transmission and transfer case, all of which have been rebuilt. The engine has been fitted with a Weber carburetor for increased reliability. This vehicle is equipped with folding rear jump seats, a new gray vinyl interior and the original factory rear heater. The original owner's manual is in the glove box.We are the third owners of this pristine local Oklahoma vehicle.

Toyota launched their FJ40 series utility vehicle in 1960. Official importation to the U.S. began in 1963, and within two years the FJ40 Land Cruiser was the best-selling Toyota in America. The FJ remained essentially the same truck until it went out of production in 1983, barring minor trim tweaks. As FJ40s reached the secondary American market, it became very common for owners to take on engine swaps, most notably by replacing the FJ's stock six with a small block Chevy V-8. This is the main reason stock power trains will continue to pull big money—few are left versus a fleet of retrofits.

The FJ40 was the first experience most westerners had with a Toyota vehicle and introduced the world to Japanese engineering at its best.It captured the hearts of buyers with its world class toughness and off-road capability. This FJ40 is a VERY high quality driver, not quite a trailer queen, but itshould win a best-in-class trophy at any car show its new owner enters. We consider it to be a restored to a #2+ grade in fit and finish quality.

Also delivered to the buyer will be the refinished rear spare mount, roll bar, and canvas half-doors for open air cruising, if desired. One photo showing this Land Cruiser in open driving form has been included.
