1961 Volvo 544 Sport
Description
Selling a nice, 1961 Volvo 544 sport. Car is a California, no rust car that would be an easy restoration or rolling restoration.
This car is owned by a good friend of mine who has unfortunately lost his ability to speak so I volunteered to help him sell it. I restored one of these in 2010 and drove it from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. in 2011 with one headlight the only casualty. I put a taller differential in mine but with that, it averaged 30 mpg on the trip and I got stopped for speeding (!) in Montana so it remained quite powerful. These cars are rugged, unique, reliable and ride and drive newer than their age.
It drives very well. I just drove it several miles to my daughters house. It started right up with no smoke, shifted well and has decent power and brakes.
Recent proffesional complete brake job with shocks and a new battery. Interior fan and wipers do not work and have not been diagnosed. Everything else seems to work including all lights and turn signals. There car was recently serviced with fluids and tune-up.
At first blush, it looks a little rough but the straightness of the body panels and lack of rust make it a great candidate for additional cosmetic work. It could be a "rolling restoration" as the interior is quite usable as-is. Parts for these, including cosmetic parts are readily available for reasonable prices from multiple sources.
The hood and trunk do not fit correctly but it does not appear to be crash damage but rather hood and latch adjustment. They do lock down for driving.
If you did some of the work yourself, there could be an financial upside to this project.
I have dozens of photos of the bottom of the car verifying it is no rust. Send me a message and I will send them to you.
Happy to show the car here in Sacramento (Fair Oaks) California.
