1978 seven passenger transporter. Low mile survivor. 100% rust free. This van is in exceptional original condition... Only 74,200 original miles. Two owners since new. All original, low mile survivor with the exception of one high quality repaint in its factory colors and new front, middle, rear seat upholstery and cushions. The previous owner owned the van for over 30 years, she always kept it garaged. During her ownership the van was meticulously maintained. The interior is in near mint condition and is all original with the exception of new front, middle, and rear seat upholstery. The headliner is perfect. The bus rides awesome with the upgraded KYB gas shocks. Very rare to find a low mile rust free survivor in this kind of condition. Many man hours have gone into the preservation of this bus with the goal to keep it as original as possible....
ENGINE-74k original miles on the factory fuel injected 2 liter hydraulic valve motor with approx. 20k miles on it. All new fuel lines, fuel sender, fuel filter, muffler, Interstate battery, & alternator. Fresh complete tune up including but not limited to plug wires, rotor, cap, points, condenser, oil change, filter service, & new foam engine seal. The motor is finely tuned and runs perfect. The engine bay is very clean and tidy (see pictures). There is no comparison to a well running fuel injected 2 liter motor in tip top shape. The transmission shifts crisp and precise. The motor runs strong and cruises at highway speeds easily... The van runs, stops, and drives excellent.
PAINT & BODY- This bus spent its life in the Pacific North West. There is no rust anywhere. The battery tray was recently replaced. This bus has been garaged for its entire life according too both previous owners. This van has had one high quality repaint in its factory colors of Sage green and white. I recently had the paint polished and detailed at a professional detail shop. The body is arrow strait with no dents. Perfect door and body gaps. The under carriage, frame, jack points, nose, floors, dog legs, inner rockers, all doors, and gutters are completely rust free, (the entire bus is 100% rust free). THERE IS NO RUST on the body or under carriage... The factory undercoating is in excellent condition. New antenna and left/right side mirrors.
INTERIOR- The interior is in excellent original near mint condition. This van has a total of seven seat belts. The dash is perfect with no cracks. Updated retractable front seat belt upgrade. The front, middle, and rear seats all have brand new upholstery and cushions installed by a professional upholstery shop. All of the factory middle and rear seat belts are in place as well as the rare and always missing middle and rear seat kick panel. All interior door panels are 100% original to the bus with the exception of a new cargo door panel. I made two new front kick panels out of 1/4 inch birch wood so they will never warp again. Nice Panasonic CD player with door speakers. The original head liner is perfect. All of the rubber mats are like new. Custom inline heater blower fan. There is a switch for the aux fan on the column. The heat works extremely good and is much better than the stock set up. EVERY THING WORKS including the door key buzzer and both dome lights. The complete interior was just professionally detailed.
SUSPENSION & BRAKES- New KYB gas shocks front and rear. New front brake calipers, rotors, pads, rear wheel cylinder and shoes. The wheel bearings were repacked at the time brakes were done. The bus handles and drives excellent. New tie rod ends. The steering is tight, brakes are excellent.
OTHER- One key fits all door locks. Nicely painted rims with new chrome trim rings.
Once in a great while you find van that has been well cared for its entire life, this is one of them... It is very hard to find a low mile van in this kind of original condition. Many hours went into the preservation of this bus. The goal was to keep it original as possible. This is a original low mile survivor in excellent condition. Clear Washington title in hand. The bus needs nothing. This bus would be the perfect centerpiece for your VW collection or use it for car shows. This van would also be a excellent daily driver. I am regretfully selling to finish the restoration on my 1965 VW bus.
Feel free to contact me with questions. I will be happy to show the bus in person before the end of the auction or answer any questions over the phone or by email. I will also be happy to assist in shipping.
